Choosing an infrared sauna for your home

An infrared sauna warms you with infrared heaters rather than heating the air, so the cabin runs at a lower temperature than a traditional sauna. The Chill Bunny cabin on this page is adjustable from 40 to 70°C.

Start with size. Decide how many people will use it and measure the room, including the door swing and the ceiling height. Then check the power. Larger cabins can need a dedicated hardwired circuit installed by a licensed electrician, so confirm the amperage against your switchboard before you order.

Compare the heaters and ask for evidence behind any EMF claim, because published figures are often the maker's own. Check which timber is used inside and out, whether the cabin includes controls such as an app and lighting, and how long the warranty runs and who handles claims.

Frequently asked questions

Do infrared saunas need an electrician?
Some do. Larger cabins can need a dedicated hardwired supply, which a licensed electrician must install. Check the power rating on the listing against your switchboard.
Is an infrared sauna the same as a traditional sauna?
No. An infrared sauna uses infrared heaters and runs at a lower air temperature, while a traditional sauna heats the air and usually runs hotter.
How much space do I need?
Allow for the cabin's external dimensions plus room to open the door. A four person cabin is around 1.8 metres wide and 2.1 metres tall.
