About this product

A lockable garage for the side of your house

Most garden sheds are a box with hinged doors. The Smartlocker is closer to a small garage. A full height roller door rolls straight up and out of the way, so you can walk a mower in, stand bikes up rather than lying them down, or push the wheelie bins in and shut the door on them.

That door is the whole point. Hinged doors need room to swing, which is exactly what you do not have down the side of a house. A roller door opens flush against the shed, so the Smartlocker fits the narrow, awkward strip of yard that nothing else will.

At 3.65 metres wide and 900mm deep, the 900 is the middle size. It takes the bins, a mower and the garden gear without eating the whole side of the house.

Built to sit outside for twenty years

Full corrugated Colorbond steel cladding, with proper guttering and a downpipe so rain runs off rather than pooling on the roof or tracking down the back wall. Most garden sheds at half the price have neither. Masonry anchors come in the box to fix it down.

We would recommend putting it on a concrete base. It is not strictly required, but it is the difference between a good shed and one that still shuts properly in ten years.

What it takes to put up

It arrives flat packed with an assembly manual, and Spanbilt publish step by step videos for it. It is a genuine two person job, and most people spend the better part of a weekend on it, with the roller door the fiddliest part. Plenty of buyers hand it to a local handyman, and if you are not confident that is money well spent.

Where it works, and where it does not

The Smartlocker is rated for wind Regions A and B, so it is not suitable for cyclonic areas. At under 10 square metres it does not need engineering, though council rules vary from one area to the next, so it is worth a quick check with yours before you order.

Not sure which size?

The 1100 is the same width but 200mm deeper if you want more room to move past what is in there, and the 800 is the compact option for a genuinely tight run. There is a size comparison further down this page.

Frequently Asked Questions 11 answers

How long until my order arrives?

These are made to order. Spanbilt asks for 4–6 weeks to manufacture, then 3–10 business days for transport depending on where you are — we're on the east coast, so Perth takes longer than Brisbane. We'll keep you posted at each stage.

Do I need council approval?

The Smartlocker is under 10m², so it doesn't require engineering. Council rules still vary by state and area, so please confirm with your local council before ordering.

What do I need to collect it?

A large trailer or ute, and some straps — the pack is about 3.7m long and roughly 290kg. Both the factory and the depot will help you load it, so you don't need to bring a hand for that; just have a plan for getting it off at the other end. Wait for our ready-to-collect call before making the trip — nothing is ready the day you order.

Can I cancel or return my order?

Your shed is made to order, so there's a window. You can cancel for a full refund any time before we place your order with the factory, and we'll email you the moment that happens. Once manufacturing has started we can't accept a cancellation, return or refund for change of mind — the shed is being built to your colour and size and can't go back on a shelf. If something arrives damaged, missing or not as described, that's a different thing entirely: check everything against the parts list within 7 days of collection, contact us within 30 days, and we'll put it right. None of this limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

How long do I have to collect from the depot?

48 hours from the depot letting you know it's arrived, after which they charge a daily storage fee. Depots collect Monday to Friday, 8am to 2pm.

How hard is it to assemble?

It's a flat-pack kit and it's a genuine two-person job — most people spend the better part of a weekend on it, and the roller door is the fiddly part. Spanbilt publish step-by-step assembly videos, and plenty of customers hand it to a local handyman.

Do you deliver everywhere in Australia?

Almost. We can't currently deliver to the Northern Territory, most Australian islands (including Stradbroke and Russell Island in QLD, Christmas Island and the Cocos Islands), or a handful of remote postcodes. The Smartlocker is also rated for wind Regions A and B only, so it isn't suitable for cyclonic areas.

Can I choose a different colour?

Yes — 7 Colorbond colours: Merino, Mist Green, Monolith, Off White, Slate Grey, Smooth Cream, Zinc. Channels and trim are Zinc on every colour.

Is home delivery included?

No. Free collection from your nearest depot or the Crestmead factory is included — we cover the $35 depot fee ourselves. Door-to-door delivery is optional and quoted for your address, since it's an assisted delivery that has to be offloaded near the truck.

What's the warranty?

A 20-year limited warranty, and the shed ships with free masonry anchors to fix it to a slab or foundation.

Do you price match?

Yes — see our price match guarantee if you find it cheaper elsewhere.
